TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF PARENTS AND EDUCATORS FOR THE DEAF

For 27 years T.A.P.E.D. has strived to support our mission of “Families, educators and communities collaborating to ensure excellence, equality and success for students who are deaf or hard of hearing”. This year’s theme “Student Success in a Digital World” represents this organization's goal to support students and families as we move forward into the future. This conference will be an excellent opportunity for obtaining continuing education, parent training, discovering the latest resources, and networking within our unique community. With the help of our “parent involvement” committee, T.A.P.E.D. has focused on providing relevant information for parents and providing programs for families. We will be providing childcare services and offering reduced registration costs for parents, as well as, offering a Family Fun night. In addition to all of this, we will also be recognizing our outstanding leaders, awarding scholarships to deserving students, teachers and interpreters. Come and join us in celebrating our unique community and the success of all students in the 21st century.

TEXAS SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF

Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) has long been a co-sponsor of the Statewide Conference by hosting pre-conference planning meetings, and by providing interpreters and executive and planning team members. Additionally TSD, through the coordination of its Educational Resource Center on Deafness (ERCOD), provides numerous conference speakers, a mobile technology lab, and supports family involvement through parent-focused workshops and the provision of childcare activities. We are pleased to once again be a part of this conference!

TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF ASSISTIVE AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES (DARS)

The DARS, Division for Rehabilitative Services, Office for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS) works in partnership with people who are deaf or hard of hearing to eliminate societal and communication barriers to improve equal access for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. DHHS has been a co-sponsor of the Statewide Conference since 1993 and has assisted with the selection and recruitment of speakers for the Interpreter Strand and Deaf Issues. We are thankful to be a part of a conference that works in partnership with the deaf or hard of hearing community!

REGIONAL DAY SCHOOL PROGRAMS FOR THE DEAF (RDSPD’S)

RDSPDs are public school day programs which are operated through 59+ fiscal agent districts across the state serving students who are deaf/hard of hearing. RDSPD’s and their representatives have been the co-sponsors, indeed the founders, of this conference from its’ inception. Representatives from various Regional Day School Programs sit on the planning committee to ensure that this conference happens year after year. These representatives volunteer their time, energy and expertise to ensure the success of this conference.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICE CENTERS (ESC’S)

The Education Service Centers provide professional development and technical assistance to school districts and charter schools across the state. Statewide leadership for programs serving students who are deaf or hard of hearing is provided by ESC-10 (Early Intervention/Preschool), ESC-11 (Communication Access), and ESC-20 (Access to the General Curriculum). Through collaboration with the planning committee, the statewide leadership team helps secure speakers for the statewide conference. There are wonderful things happening across the state in the field of deaf education and we are proud of the presenters who share their expertise. Enjoy the conference!

Achieving Student Success in a Digital World

Today’s digital age has provided unlimited access to technology and opened a new world of opportunities for students who are deaf and hard of hearing. Students are now able to experience the world through technology in a way that they have never been able to in the past. They are able to communicate and socialize through a media that knows no barriers.

As educators and as families of students who are deaf and hard of hearing, we must embrace the limitless opportunities that the digital age presents, allowing students to achieve new heights as they face the future. Join us at the Statewide Conference on Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in 2012 as we explore current research and innovative strategies targeted to foster and support student success in the 21st century.
